JARED M. HALL

Jared Hall, J.D., is an associate family lawyer here at Soyars & Morgan Law. Mr. Hall graduated law school from the St. Mary’s University School of Law cum laude in May 2023. Upon graduating, Mr. Hall took the July 2023 Uniform Bar Examination, passing with a score in the top 7% of applicants nationwide.
Hailing from the small town of Snow Hill, North Carolina, Jared Hall was raised in a farming community by his parents, who are hog farmers. After graduating Arendell Parrott Academy near the top of his class in 2016, Mr. Hall pursued his musical interests at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he received a scholarship for music performance, studying under Yale graduate Nicholas Dieugenio. At the age of 20, Mr. Hall made it onto Rolling Stone’s website as part of “Soul Message” by Rissi Palmer, the first African-American woman to chart a country music billboard hit in over twenty years.
Upon graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May 2020, Jared Hall moved to San Antonio, Texas, to pursue a juris doctorate from the St. Mary’s University School of Law on a Dean’s Scholarship. In the spring of his 1L year, Mr. Hall placed as a semi-finalist in the Linda and Dave Schlueter First-Year Moot Court Competition. Simultaneously, he began his first legal job working under Michael McCrum as a law clerk, dealing with internal criminal investigations, and federal criminal cases.
Mr. Hall began his 2L year taking Evidence with Professor David A. Schlueter and Federal Courts with the Honorable Patrick Higginbotham earning an A and A-, respectively, and making the Dean’s List. He also began his legal writing career on the St. Mary’s Law Journal as a staff writer. In the spring of 2022, Mr. Hall began working at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, as a judicial intern to the Honorable David Morales. Over the summer of 2022, he worked at the Bexar County Criminal Court Administration, helping with jury charges, observing trials, and researching answers to questions presented by criminal court judges in Bexar County.
At the start of his 3L year, Mr. Hall accepted a position to work with Professor David A. Schlueter as a research assistant, working on the 2023 Supplement to the Texas Rule of Evidence Manual, and other various writings on military criminal law, including textbooks previously cited by the United States Supreme Court. He also continued his journal career as a senior associate editor on the St. Mary’s Law Journal. Mr. Hall earned A’s in Bar Prep for Credit and Death Penalty, including getting the highest grade in the entire course in the latter. In the spring, Mr. Hall accepted a position as a law clerk at Soyars and Morgan, and became part of the Soyars & Morgan family.
As a lawyer, Mr. Hall takes pride in his knowledge of both the Texas Rules of Evidence and Federal Rules of Evidence and his aggressive trial strategy. Within the first ten months of his career, Mr. Hall went to trial on a variety of family law issues, including divorces, suits affecting the parent child relationship, modifications, and successfully applying for and defending against protective orders. He strives to provide each and every client the representation they deserve, regardless of the situation.
In his free time, Jared Hall enjoys weightlifting and tennis. He also enjoys spending time with his family and wife and listening to and making music.
An avid musician, Mr. Hall began playing violin at the age of five and classical guitar at the age of eight. He won numerous awards and competitions as a musician, including the 2013 ECU Classical Guitar Festival Competition and being named number one violinist in the state several times at the Honors All-State Orchestra.
Mr. Hall is a published legal author as of March 2024 in the South Carolina Law Review with his article To Privilege or Not to Privilege: A Rational Solution to Claiming the Deliberations Privilege Under Military Rules of Evidence 509 and 606(b). He has an older brother (Lin) and younger brother (Ryan), and all of his family lives in North Carolina. He thanks all those who made contributions to his success.
